Gift Vouchers at Nectar: How They Work, and Why We Love Sending Them

Yes, we do vouchers at Nectar. It is one of the most straightforward things we offer, and one of my favourite things to be asked about, for a reason that has nothing to do with the transaction itself.

You decide the total value. You decide what we write on it. And you decide whether you want it as a physical voucher or an electronic one. That is genuinely the whole process, and it is deliberately simple, because the actual point of a voucher has very little to do with the mechanics of buying one.

Why we love it when someone gifts a Nectar voucher

Every time someone decides that a Nectar voucher is the right gift for someone in their life, it means something specific to us. It means they believe an evening at Nectar is an experience worth giving to somebody else, not just a meal or a round of drinks, but something they trust will genuinely matter to the person receiving it.

That is, without exaggeration, the biggest compliment we can receive. A five-star review tells us we did something well on a given night. A voucher purchase tells us that someone thought about the people they care about, considered the range of gifts available to them, and decided that time spent at Nectar was the one worth handing over. We do not take that lightly, and it is a large part of why we try to make the process of buying and receiving one feel considered rather than transactional.

Our favourite way it happens

Our favourite version of this, by a clear margin, is when someone comes into the bar in person to buy one.

Walking in means we can write everything on the voucher together, right there, in the moment. We can talk through what you want it to say, add a personal touch if there is something specific you are hoping to include, and hand it over exactly as you imagined it, rather than working from a description over email or a form filled in remotely. It is a genuinely nice interaction, and it usually turns into a small conversation about who the voucher is for and why, which is the kind of detail that makes the whole thing feel less like a purchase and more like something we are helping put together with you.

If you come in, we book the voucher there and then, you pay on the spot, and you walk out with it in hand. It is about as easy as this kind of thing gets, and if you are ever passing Nectar and thinking about a gift for someone, this is genuinely the simplest route.

How it works if you would rather do it electronically

Not everyone can get to Broughton Street in person, and for that we offer an electronic voucher process that is nearly as simple, just structured slightly differently because we are working from information you send us rather than a conversation across the bar.

When you get in touch about an electronic voucher, we will ask you to confirm a few specific details.

Who the voucher is for. This is the name we will use on the voucher itself, and it helps us personalise it properly rather than leaving it generic.

Who the voucher is from. So the recipient knows exactly who has thought of them, which is often the part people care most about getting right.

The amount. Entirely your decision, and there is no minimum or maximum threshold we push people toward. Whatever feels right for the occasion and the person is the right number.

The occasion. If there is something specific we should mention, a birthday, an anniversary, Christmas, or simply a thank you with no occasion attached at all, let us know and we will make sure it is reflected properly on the voucher.

Once we have those four things confirmed, we will send you a payment link. As soon as payment comes through, the voucher goes out to you, ready to send on or print, however you would like to present it.

A few practical things worth knowing

Vouchers do have an expiry date, generally one year from the date they are created. This is fairly standard practice and gives whoever receives the voucher plenty of time to plan a proper visit rather than feeling rushed into using it.

They can be redeemed for anything on the menu, food and drinks alike. There is no restriction on what a voucher can be put toward once someone is sitting at a table with us. If they want to spend the whole thing on cocktails, or put it entirely toward a full sharing plates dinner, or split it evenly across both, that decision belongs entirely to them. We do not want a gift voucher to come with hidden conditions about how it should be spent. The whole point is generosity, and generosity should not come with fine print.

The best gift is usually the simplest one

If you are trying to think of something to give someone who already has enough things, a Nectar voucher tends to solve that problem cleanly. It is not another object to find space for. It is an evening: sharing plates, a cocktail they might never have tried otherwise, an hour or two spent somewhere warm on Broughton Street. That is a gift people tend to remember considerably longer than most things that come wrapped in paper.
